VARMS Facilities
Club house
- Kitchen with oven, microwave, tea, and coffee facilities. Two toilets and a hand basin, no showers are available. Tables and chairs. Soft drinks and icy poles are available in the fridge for the advertised cost.
Carparking
- Could be a bit limited so we will priorities trailer parking nearest the pit area and cars may need to be moved to other areas.
- Trailers can be left in the VARMS carpark on the Friday evening by arrangement with the organising committee.
Model storage
- Available for gliders and tow planes in the main club house and possibly the workshop room as well on Saturday night depending on the number of aircraft requiring storage.
Pit area
- Tables, 12VDC Charging facilities, 2 x 240AC power points. Engine Start up restraints are available.
Runway
- Roughly north/south at 160m long and 42m wide.
Flying area
- About 800mm flying radius to the north, east and south of the runway
- Maximum allowed flying height is 2000 AGL, spotter is required above 1000 feet.
Workshop
- Our workshop has basic tools and benches etc.
Saturday Night Dinner
If there is sufficient interest, we’ll organise a dinner at the near by Stamford Inn.
Event Rules
All pilots must
- Attend pilot’s briefing(s) prior to flying
- Follow the directions of the VARMS event committee.
- Follow directions of active safety officer.
- Have appropriate MAAA wings ratings for the models being flown.
- Fly from the designated pilot box area.
- Have fun
Landing priority as directed by the active safety officer:
- Dead stick tow planes.
- Unpowered gliders.
- Electric powered gliders.
These types of model aircraft are not permitted to fly at VARMS:
- Jet turbine powered aircraft.
- Models weighing more than 25 Kgs.
Models over 7Kgs must have a current Heavy Model certificate available for perusal by the organising committee members if asked.
Heavy model inspectors will be available if needed to perform inspections.
Petrol engine model aircraft must be restrained during engine starting up.
No flying west of the runway line.
